The RPC Satcom Masterclasses are held in Australia at least once a year. They consist of two courses: Satellite Link Engineering and Interference Analysis Satellite Frequency Coordination & ITU Radio Regulations
Details for the 2009 Satcom Masterclasses in Australia are in the process of being finalised. Below are the courses and topics. Week 1: Satellite Link Engineering and Interference Analysis Topics o Satellite and earth station antennas o Basic radio and satellite transmission principles o Noise, losses and their impact on radio and satellite links o Slant-path propagation losses in detail o System performance parameters o Quality-of-service (QoS) criteria o Signal processing o Forward error correction o Impairments in satellite transponders and earth stations o Link engineering design o Interference in satellite systems o Protection ratios o Intersystem interference and software o Interference analysis and mitigation of ITU planned BSS and FSS bands o Practical exercises
Topics o Radio spectrum management principles o The ITU and the Radio Regulations relevant to frequency coordination o Coordination of GSO Satellite networks with Terrestrial networks o Coordination of GSO - GSO networks o Coordination of NGSO satellites o Intersystem coordination (meeting preparation, coordination steps, summary record) o Preparation of ITU filings. o Slot protection programme and methodology o Practical exercise ("role-play" exercise to prepare and conduct a coordination meeting). o Hands on experience on all relevant ITU software o Hands on experience with Sat-Coord o Optimising intersystem frequency coordination
The Masterclasses are presented by Mark C J Posen, B.Sc. M.Sc. MIET C.Eng., who has an international reputation in the field of satellite link engineering and coordination.
